Dear Mulberry,

The gas guy visited. He was carrying a machine like you might carry a bag or purse with a strap over your shoulder and the bag under your arm. Only the bag wasn’t soft. It was hard like a canister. Coming out of one end of the canister was a long tube with a funnel on the end.

I wondered if he was a ghostbuster disguised as a gas guy. You wondered what the machine did. So I asked. He said he attached the funnel to our gas meter to make sure there were no gas leaks. If there was a leak the machine would beep. You thought it looked like a vacuum cleaner. The gas guy said that was basically what it was.

He took off the hose and pushed on the part where it was attached to the canister. It beeped. Hmm… maybe that’s how you check for ghosts. Maybe ghosts are made out of gas. I wonder what you think.
